Annual Giving Fund FAQ

Why do I need to support the Annual Giving Fund Campaign?

While tuition establishes the foundation for an exceptional education, it does not cover the full cost of a Saklan experience. A contribution to the Annual Giving Fund benefits each and every student at The Saklan School, bridging "the gap" between the actual cost to educate each student and what you pay in tuition.

What is "the gap" and how much is it?

The gap is the difference between the actual cost to educate each student and what you pay in tuition. Depending on the number of students enrolled every year, the true gap between tuition and the cost of education varies. This year the gap for students in Pre-K is $1,700 per student and for students in K-8 grades is $2,500 per student.

What is my contribution used for?

Contributions to the Annual Giving Fund ensure the continued health, success, and growth of our school. Your gifts allow Saklan to maintain small class sizes, financial diversity, and provide engaging, high-quality, individualized education by attracting and retaining our outstanding faculty. In addition, your contribution provides for continued program improvements, professional development for faculty and staff, and facilities maintenance.

How much should I give?

Only you can determine the amount that is significant for your family. We encourage you to consider the impact your gift will make, to realize the value of your donation in providing an exceptional school experience for our students, and to make your gift a personally meaningful one while fully understanding the significance of our budget gap.

Why is 100% participation so important?

Our teachers, staff, and Board of Trustees all participate at 100%, because they believe in the value of a Saklan education, first and foremost. High participation is a vote of confidence and a sign that our community supports all the students and teachers of The Saklan School. This percentage also has an impact on gifts from outside sources; Foundations will consider high parent participation rates before agreeing to donate funds to a school.

Is my contribution tax-deductible? Yes. The Saklan School is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Unlike tuition payments, your donations to the Annual Giving Fund are 100% tax-deductible, as permitted by law.

Can I PLEDGE NOW and PAY LATER?

Yes, pledging allows you to make a gift that you pay over time during the school year OR is a specific amount you agree to donate by the end of our Annual Giving Fund Campaign. Please submit your pledges to development@saklan.org We request that all pledges be paid by May 15, 2019.

Can I use my credit card to make a gift? Can I make a gift online?

Yes. From our website, www.saklan.org use the drop down menu under GIVING, to Donate Online, on our secure site. The benefit of this form of donation is that the gift is received immediately. The earlier you make your donation, the earlier Saklan students can benefit directly from your gift.

What is a Company Matching Gift Program?

Many companies provide a matching gift, usually up to a maximum amount, for every dollar their employee donates. Giving in this special way, can double and, sometimes, triple the impact of your gift! Please contact the HR department in your company or our Director of Development, Carol Goldman, at development@saklan.org if you want to learn if your employer has a matching gift program.

Pledges are requested to be received by December 17, 2018.
