Communications Manager - Maternity Leave Cover

 Overview of School

The Saklan School, founded in 1954, offers an outstanding coeducational PreK-8 program to over 120 students. The school community embraces the ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic diversity of the Lamorinda area and well beyond. The school’s educational program is driven by its mission of Thinking Creatively, Acting Compassionately Living Courageously and fosters all of the skills of 21st Century pedagogy. Our small class size and student-centered approach cultivates confidence, self-esteem and leadership skills. The Saklan School places emphasis on a well-rounded approach, a strong sense of community, responsibility, personal growth, and balance.

The Saklan School is located in Moraga, California, with easy access to many points in the East Bay area.

Overview of the Position

We are looking for an experienced Communications Manager to cover maternity leave for a period of 4 months.

In addition to the Communications Manager role, the candidate will be assigned middle school classroom duties so as to make up a full-time position.

The Communications Manager will be responsible for:

  • School-wide communications
  • Craft and publish the weekly blog
  • Manage and update website, newsletters, and other communications and promotional materials
  • Develop compelling and timely social media messages and campaigns
  • Attend and assist in the execution of major school events
  • Take, curate, and edit photographs for marketing and visibility purposes
  • Maintain the school’s photo and video galleries
  • Maintain the online Family Portal by updating information
  • Manage the school calendar
  • Help with creating marketing material for both internal and external advertising
  • Be able to help out with tasks assigned by the Head of School 
  • May be needed to assist teachers from time to time depending on need

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience in communications and marketing
  • Experience in social media marketing
  • Experience in working in education and/or with school age children
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in the use of the Google Suite, comfort with databases and social media
  • Experience with digital photography and graphic design
  • Team-oriented, energetic professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to multitask and meeting deadlines
  • Self-starter who isn't afraid to take initiative and work independently
  • Sound judgment relating to confidential projects, personnel, school, or student matters
  • Live Scan Fingerprinting, current TB clearance and health report, CPR and First Aid training

Substitute Teacher

Overview of the Position

Substitute teachers are needed at all levels. Assignments can vary from single day substitutions to multiple day assignments.

Qualifications

Substitute teachers must have a background in education and/or experience in working with school age children. A valid teaching qualification is preferred and substitutes working with preschool students should have completed the 12 core semester units of the ECE curriculum (Child Development, Family and Community). All candidates must meet State Licensing requirements which include Live Scan Fingerprinting, current TB clearance and health report. We are seeking candidates who are reliable, adaptable and have a nurturing and supportive tone with students.
