Spanish Teacher – Grades 4-8 (Start Date August 2017)
Overview of the Position
Spanish is taught as a foreign language to all students in Grades PreK-8. This position involves teaching Spanish to students in Grades 4-8 with each class having three or four lessons per week. Class size is small with no more than 16 students per section and most classes averaging 12 students. Some differentiation may be required for students that transition into Saklan from other schools. In addition to classroom instruction, the teacher will be expected to participate in supervision duties, staff meetings, parent meetings, workshops and various activities that promote the schools programs and reputation.
Candidates must be fluent in progressive educational theory and practices, be culturally competent, and have at least two years of exemplary classroom teaching experience. Candidates must have a working understanding of developmental/constructivist teaching practices and will be able to successfully instruct and differentiate for students at different ability levels and multiple intelligences. A valid teaching qualification is required. We are seeking candidates who have a nurturing and supportive tone with students, and experience with collaborative teaching.
