Saklan Valley School Teacher Carol Schofield Receives Honor

BIG WINNER, BIG WINNER -- Saklan Valley School teacher Carol Schofield was honored this week as a recipient of one of this year's Warren W. Eukel Teacher Trust Awards.

The trust aims to encourage educational excellence by awarding $10,000 grants to outstanding teachers.

Schofield has taught in elementary schools for 17 years -- for 10 years in the San Ramon Valley School District, and seven years at Moraga's Saklan Valley School. She is known for instilling confidence and enthusiasm in her students, and lavishing them with individual attention. Twice a year, she takes her students out to lunch in small groups, and gives every family her home phone number so they can call whenever they need to.

Schofield is also described as a mentor to her peers, and counselor to parents in successful parenting techniques.

Schofield was honored along with Ron Houston of Venture School in San Ramon and Deborah Meylan of Heights Elementary in Pittsburg.

The Warren W. Eukel Teacher Trust was established in 1991, and has handed more than $300,000 to Contra Costa County teachers since its inception. It is currently looking for nominations for next year's awards, which can be submitted by teachers, principals, students, parents and others.

To nominate a teacher, send a letter to: Warren W. Eukel Teacher Trust, 2125 Oak Grove Road, Suite 120, Walnut Creek, CA 94598 before June 30, 2006.
