Caroling for Cans
Middle School Students will gather at Mr. Martin’s home next Wednesday night for their annual Caroling for Cans event. This tradition, now ten years old, entails students in grades six through eight, and often recent Saklan alumni now in high school or college, singing holiday tunes around the Head of School’s neighborhood and collecting canned foods in return for the Food Drive. Students also enjoy pizza, cookies and hot chocolate at Mr. Martin’s home; middle school students are all heartily encouraged to attend.
Grandparents Day
We will happily celebrate Wednesday Feburary 1 our third annual Grandparents Day, on the day following the Annual Concert. Grandparents are also invited to the concert itself.
On this special day grandparents will have the chance to tour the campus and visit briefly in the classrooms of their grandchildren, and then enjoy a pleasant lunch and presentation about the school by the Head of School and members of the Board of Trustees. This is a free event; we will mail out invitations soon to those grandparents we have on our mailing list. If you think we do not have your child’s grandparents on our list, please drop us a line with their addresses.
From the Annual Giving Campaign Committee
After another two weeks of campaigning, we have made great progress going forward with our vitally important Annual Giving Campaign. We have now crossed the 50% participation mark (on a goal of 100%), and our receipts now total nearly $142,000 (on a goal of $160,000).
This is the high phase of our campaignwe are very determined to conclude it by early in the New Yearbut we need your pledges to help us finish this effort. We are very eager both to secure the highest participation rate possible, and to meet our financial goal of $160,000. Exceeding our goal is a great thing tooit provides us more opportunities to invest more in improving our facilities, grounds, and classroom equipment. Join us soon with your completed pledge cardyour pledge itself does not need to be fulfilled until school year’s end! Make your pledge and join the list!
We are happy to welcome a new member to our Extended day staff, Alyson Stout. Alyson is herself a former Saklan student who spent many an afternoon here in the Extended Day program from Kindergarten through Third Grade. She now joins our team as an Elementary Extended day teacher. Alyson is replacing David Eric, for whom we wish the best in all his future endeavors.
Alyson is a graduate of Campolindo High School and Loyola University in Chicago where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. She has worked at Camp Arroyo as an art director, as a day care provider, as well as an art teacher. We are excited to have such a talented, caring person working with our Saklan students.
REMINDERS
I have two important reminders about the next two weeks in Extended Day. The first reminder is that Wednesday, December 14th Extended Day will be closing at 4 p.m. This is the evening of our faculty holiday party, and we would like all our staff members to attend the party. The second reminder is that school is dismissed at noon on Friday, December 16th. Extended Day will be open until 6 p.m.
