Community Cautions
The newspaper has reported that there have been a few suspicious incidents of late in Lamorindatwo in Lafayette, one in Moraga. In none of these cases has any child been harmed, nor it is certain that any harm was even intended, but it does behoove us to use these events to prompt us to caution our children should they be walking unaccompanied, even here in the safety of Moraga.

Parent Association Updates...
- Please join us for coffee and refreshments following Friday flag tomorrow morning.
- Please note your child's class field trips when ordering hot lunch, so you don't order lunch when your child is not in school. The November menu will reflect all school holidays for your convenience. All parents will be automatically credited for any lunches ordered in October that are school holidays.
- Thank you to all the parents that responded to our "mini" hot lunch survey, your feedback was very helpful and you should see some changes as a result.
- If you plan to attend our speaker series this month, featuring Deborah Stipek, Dean of Stanford, please rsvp at www.saklan.org. Seating is open to the public and limited, and we want to insure all Saklan families are accommodated.
Go Saklan Suns!
Our fine middle school soccer team is off to a good start, having played their first two games already. Demonstrating strong growth from a year ago in their teamwork and passing, they lost a tough game to Tehiyah Day School a week ago, and then yesterday won a big victory over Julia Morgan School. Six more games are still forthcoming, including a match against Bentley School on Thursday, October 20. Go Suns!

Extended Day
I have a few quick reminders for our Saklan families. First, as everyone knows we have conferences on October 11th, 12th, and 13th. Each of these days are a noon dismissal, however extended day care will be open from 12:00-6:00 p.m. The sign up sheets are posted by the time clock in the extended day foyer. If your child will be staying with us on any of these days, they need to bring a lunch. We will provide an afternoon snack.
The next important reminder is regarding October 27th and 28th. We still have space in extended day on these days, however space is limited. Sign up sheets are located in the extended day foyer for your convenience.
Halloween is rapidly approaching! We are all looking forward to a safe and scary night. We have a noon dismissal on Monday, October 31st. Extended day will be open from 12:00-4:00 p.m. A sign up sheet will be posted next week. We want to give our families enough time to make arrangements for this early day.
Finally, I have enrichment class news. Our Science Adventures after school club is beginning on Tuesday, November 8th. The scientific theme is “Crime Busters.” Please feel free to register any time this month. Also, Saklan will be offering an after school dance class beginning on Tuesday, October 25th. The class is taught by a group called Happy Feet. The students will learn stylized movement in jazz and hip hop, technique in ballet, as well as other valuable motor skills like balance, coordination, flexibility, and rhythm. The registration forms will be available on Monday in the extended day foyer. Please come join the fun! --Kim Carlock, Extended Day Director
