First Parent Association Meeting next Thursday the 15th at 8:40 AM
Please join us for the first Parent Association Meeting of the year in the church across the street from the school! Refreshments will be served, and childcare will be provided for your convenience this year. We will be discussing our upcoming line up of parent education speakers, information on our exciting annual auction, and the new parent association website (now available) among other items. Jonathan Martin will also be presenting information on enrollment, ERB scores, and our faculty and administrative developments. Additionally, Jonathan will share with us the key findings of the parent survey conducted in May. I look forward to seeing you at our first kick-off meeting!

Extended Day News
The Extended Day program is happy to welcome our new Spanish teacher, Silvia Giebitz. We are accepting sign ups for Spanish classes for the next 2 weeks. We are offering a class for children ages 3-5 from 2:15 until 3:15 most Mondays until Winter Break. Our second class is offered to children in grades 1 through 5 on the same days from 3:30 until 4:30. Anyone interested please obtain a registration form from the Extended Day hallway and return the form and money to Karen Lane or Kim Carlock.
Families interested in Gymnastics, Science, Chess, Basketball, or Kid’s Kuisine classneed to submit their registration forms and payments by Thursday, September 15th. Our classes are beginning very soon. As a reminder, Saklan Valley School charges $3 per class for the duration of the session. Please purchase an enrichment block to cover this fee. Forms are available in the main office or in the Extended Day hallway.
Calendar Changes (Repeat From Last Week)
The official school calendar has listed a two day period in September (22nd-23rd) for a noon dismissal and school closure for faculty professional development. We hate to do this kind of calendar change, and we try to do it only very rarely, but the training which we are intending has encountered a scheduling conflict, necessitating us to reschedule to a date in late October. So we will have school September 22nd and 23rd (and if you have already made travel plans, we will have to excuse you), and please now mark that school will close at noon on the 27th of October, and be closed the 28th as well; Extended Day will be open and will be happy to host your children those days.
Hurricane Katrina Project
Students and teachers have collaborated this week to put in place a plan for assistance to those suffering the effects of Katrina. We are selecting to support the St. Vincent de Paul society, which has a collection happening this month for gently used clothing and other materials, which they will truck to the affected areas. A list is attached; we ask that your children bring to school next Thursday and Friday these items, which we will collect on tarps in the courtyard concrete patio opposite the head’s office and then transport to the collection center. Students will discuss this next week and remind each other; we encourage you to include your children in this effort to make it that much more an educational experience.
