Beautification Day - Thank you!

Greetings:

It was very wonderful to see everyone Monday at the BBQ—(Thanks so much, Parent Association Board and all of you grilled, prepped, and cleaned!)—and then Wednesday morning for Opening of School Flag.  154 children are enrolled in the school, what we believe is a new all time high, and our “launch” has been completed now with nothing but smiles all around!  Seeing M. Vincent singing in French to our new three year olds; seeing the Second Graders make their first “Squiggles,” seeing fifth graders exert themselves and expand their lungs out on our SportsCourt, and seeing the thirtyfour middle school students last night at 9:45 quietly reflect in a circle upon their day sharing their warm affection for their teachers and classmates: this is Saklan in action, and boy have I missed it since June!  Hurrah to our teachers for their phenomenal effort in preparing for another great year, and bravo to our students for their exciting way they seek to burst in the front door every morning rushing for another day of learning, growth, and friendship!  --Jonathan Martin, Head of School

Dropping Off in the Morning: Reminders

In the morning: our doors open at 8:15. Saklan teachers work industriously to prepare for the day, and need to be free from interruption or distraction until the opening time.   While you are always welcome to check your children into Extended Day before 8:15 (and those are the children sometimes viewed playing in the Little Yard before 8:15), PS-5 students should remain in front, under your supervision, until 8:15.   Middle School students are welcome to enter their courtyard and arrange their lockers beginning each morning at 8:00.   Pre-School and Pre-Kindergarten families are welcome to remain with their children to facilitate their transition each morning, but for Kindergarten and above we politely ask that you drop off, say or wave hello, and then be on your way: our classrooms are too small to accommodate larger numbers, and the students need to begin, on their own, their own transition into the school day routine.

Parking Lot Reminders

First and foremost: DO NOT WALK CHILDREN THROUGH THE PARKING LOT.

Please use the yellow crosswalks and the sidewalks to access campus.

Please also honor the reserved spaces by not parking there, and the drop-off spaces by only “live parking” in them swiftly to let out a child without getting out yourself.   Doing so frees up other spaces that then allows everyone better use of the lot.

Uniform Reminder: Grades 1-8

A small reminder: Sweatshirts, Fleeces, and Sweaters for students in grades 1-8 may only be worn at school, inside or out, if they are solid color red, white, or blue, and entirely blank, free of any logos, the Saklan logo excepted.   Sweatshirts, etc. not conforming to these guidelines will be collected and held in the office.
