Elementary (Entering First Through Fifth Grades)
Specialists: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - Friday: Field Trips
Session I
June 16 - July 3
“Science of Ecosystems”

The Science Ecosystem Camp will take a look at the different ecosystems that encompass and are so integrated into the diversity of our beautiful planet. We will be exploring an aquatic ecosystem by stepping behind our school and catching organisms and exploring what elements make up the Moraga Creek. We will be looking at field ecosystems, learning about plants, catching bugs and the large mammals that make it their home, while learning about the food webs they all create. And finally we will be looking at an exotic ecosystem and trying to recreate it in a terrarium after we explore and learn all about it. Students will get to know their native ecosystem and take a look at how diverse and special our planet is without having to go another world away. Nature is everywhere and they are about to realize how close it is!

Session II
July 7 - 25
“Lego Engineering”

Play-Well TEKnologies (www.play-well.org), has taught our Engineering Fundamentals with Lego classes in the Contra Costa area for the past 5 years at nearby recreation centers (25 recreation centers in the East Bay, and YMCA's). Our classes focus on building students' interest in the field of engineering and architecture. The curriculum (designed by engineers) builds off the math and science skills students learn during the school year, and applies them in real-world engineering scenarios/challenges utilizing hundreds of thousands of Lego.

Session III
July 28 - August 15

“Camp Creative” Art & Soul Music Studios will be teaching studio arts and crafts. This is the place to let your imagination run wild, while your hands stay busy!
You will explore different media and dimensions of art from painting to clay and from flat to three-dimensional space. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the artist within you. At the end of the session, you will create your very own “Camp Saklan Art Gallery” to show your work.

**All workshops are tentative and may either be consolidated or cancelled due to low enrollment. Workshop themes subject to change.

Field Trips

Friday Field Trips

Field trips are for elementary school-age children only. We created the Friday Field Trips for adventurous fun and an enriching educational experience too! The field trip day lasts from 8:30 to 4:30. Morning and afternoon snack is provided. The field trip schedule and fees(if applicable) will be mailed out in the confirmation packet. Below are some of the exciting possibilities that we expect to offer as field trips this year.

Lawrence Hall of Science • Exploratorium • Pier 39 • Berkely Ice Land • MOCHA • Golden Skate • Tildern Park

Each Friday, the Elementary Program goes on a weekly field trip, from 8:30 to 4:30. There are no other provisions here at Camp Saklan. Therefore, if you choose not to have your child attend the field trips, you will have to make other arrangements.

Extended Day Program

We offer an extended day program Monday through Friday. Our morning times are from 7:00 A.M. to 8:30 A.M. In the afternoon, our program is from 4:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. These options are available to you for an additional fee.

General Information

Staff
Our Summer staff is composed of qualified teachers with backgrounds in Early Childhood, Child Development and Elementary Education. Each teacher and staff member is well-trained, certified in C.P.R./First Aid, and displays love and respect for children.

Online or Phone Registration
Saklan is going paperless for its Camp Saklan Registration. Visit www.saklan.org to register online. If you do not have an Internet connection, call our office and we will register you over the phone. Camp Saklan online registration forms are comprehensive and easy to use. Early Bird Discount: $25 will be deducted from the total fees for each camper who registers before March 31st 2008.

Upon receipt of the registration material, our office will send a confirmation packet. If your program, course or trip is full or in jeopardy of cancellation you will be informed of the status and your fees will be refunded in full. The priority registration deadline is May 1, 2008 for all sessions to enable the camp to hire the appropriate number of staff. Applications will be accepted after the priority deadline, and may be enrolled based on space availability.

Payment
All payments are due May 31st, 2008.

Deposit and Processing Fee
A nonrefundable deposit of $250 or the total tuition, whichever is less, is required at time of registration. Registration cannot be processed without the deposit. The deposit is credited toward the payment of each week or session enrolled. Priority registration is due by May 1st, 2008. There is also a $5 processing fee that will be added to your total.

Refund Policy
The fees for all programs include a non-refundable deposit of $250. You will receive a 50% refund, less the deposit, if you withdraw by June 1, 2008. No refunds will be issued after that date. No refunds can be made to a student who, for disciplinary reasons, is asked to leave the program.

Sign-Up and Billing for Extended Hours
You will receive an extended day enrollment form in your confirmation packet. All extended hours will be billed every three weeks of camp. Extended hours are based on the time that your child is actually signed in and out of the program, beyond program hours.

Signing in and Out
Because we are a state licensed program, adults dropping off or picking up a child must sign in and check out the child every day.
