		What distinguishes Saklan Valley School's Extended Day program from other programs of its kind is the family like environment and quality of care given to the children who attend. We offer both Early Childhood and School Age programs for children ages 3 to 12. We are a state licensed facility that is open to both public and Saklan Valley School students. Children may attend either on a part time or full time basis. Our maximum student/teacher ratio is 12 to 1 in the Early Childhood program and 14 to 1 in our School Age program. The Extended Day program incorporates both structured activity and free play time for both the Early Childhood and School Age child.

Some of the activities included in the school age program are study hall, sports, arts and crafts, and cooking. In the Early Childhood program activities include art, music and movement, cooking, story time, and games.

Also available are enrichment classes offered by independent instructors usually for an additional fee for the specialist instruction. These may include Spanish, Art, Drama, and Gymnastics. These classes are offered for an additional fee paid to the independent instructors directly. Extended Day fees are charged at a 50% rate during independent instruction time.

Staff

The Extended Day director and staff are highly qualified and carefully chosen in keeping with California Childcare Licensing laws. Most of our teachers have Associate Arts and or Bachelor's degrees as well as training and experience in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and or Recreation.

Hours

Saklan Valley School offers before-school extended care from 7:00 A.M. to 8:15 , and after-school extended care to 6:00 P.M.

Enrollment

Children may enroll for full time monthly, part time monthly, or drop-in extended care. Reservations are required 24 hours in advance for drop-in care, based on availability. Without 24 hour notice there is a $7.50 per hour fee. There is a late fee of $25.00 for monthly rates not paid by the 5th.

Security

Children must be signed in and out on the child care roster. In addition, we ask that emergency cards be kept up-to-date with current phone numbers of parents or guardians and lists of persons authorized to pick up your child. A note or call is necessary if someone other than the customary person is to pick up your child. Anyone unknown to us will be asked for a picture identification. A staff member must be told when you take your child from school.

Two program information boards in the Extended Day office (Early Childhood and School Age) offer details regarding our program. A weekly school newsletter also contains information pertaining to the Extended Day program.

The pre-payment program requires all families who use Extended Day services to prepay for their child's care at the beginning of each month. There are no exceptions. A ledger of Extended Day hours will be available each month and unused hours will be credited to the next month. Reservations are required 24 hours in advance for drop-in care, based on availability.
