Parent Association Meeting Minutes

October 16, 2009

In Attendance:  Hillary Conlon, Pam Yares, Gina Baker, Nicole Mills, Jennifer Ondrejka, Carol Goldman, Lisa Rokas, Kay Long-Martin, Liesl Ferreira, Lilly Omid, Adele Connor, Inna Shapiro, Dave Hague

I. The meeting began with Hillary introducing our guest speaker:  Angela Stanford, Director of Nutrition for Children's Choice.

Angela is also a registered dietician.  Angela gave an overview of the lunch program from Children's Choice and all of their new developments.  The goal for Children's Choice is they want students to try something new and expand their palates.  They have a new menu each month, and they completely revamped their menu over the summer.  New this year - sushi!  Now 95% of their meals are made from scratch.  Their meals have no high fructose corn syrup, no MSG and no artificial colors and flavors.  They use hormone free beef and organic greens, potatoes and rice.  When deciding on their menus they look at seasonality of produce and look at buying from local vendors when possible.  They have worked with Semifreddi's to make bread rolls exclusively for Children's Choice.  In preparing their menus, they follow federal and state nutritional guidelines, as well as the NSMP standards, which are the most strict.  They want all entrees to have 6 grams of fiber and reduced sodium.  If your student is allergic to gluten, soy, dairy, peanuts, etc., there is information on their website regarding allergens on all of their entrees.  They are now using 100% compostible containers with water/soy based ink on the wrappers.  Children's Choice has a green team and can work with our school to set up a way to compost their containers.  If you want to contact Angela her email is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
